The Odell
Apartments
Offsite Units
The Odell House
currently offers the three main floor apartments, as well as the upstairs
"Ballroom" apartment as furnished units for short term stay. We also have
two offsite units, in the same basic neighborhood which are generally,
though not exclusively, used for longer term corporate stay.
The Odell House setting is unique to Spokane, anchoring the corner of First
and Poplar in Browne’s Addition, surrounded by sister buildings on the
Historic Registry, it has open, park-like views of the MAC museum grounds,
historic furnishings and fixtures as well as more high tech conveniences
such as individual cable, wireless and LAN high speed Internet connections.
All units are nonsmoking inside, one of them (C) can accommodate dogs. We
request prior notice for this service, a minor extra cleaning fee for pets,
and the promise that said canine will not be left alone when you go out. It
makes them miserable to be left in strange surroundings, and though you may
not know it you are not there after all--they ALL cry in this case!
All the units have fully equipped kitchens, queen beds, private baths, DSL,
WiFi cable, TV, VCR. Other than that they are all quite different. |

Odell Apartment F (The Ballroom)
--
All of the Odell House units are special, but Apartment F is quite magical.
Think of the children's book, The Little Princess, after the
rich stranger befriended the orphaned girl, and there you have it. It's
third floor, with the gold-domed ceiling of the spacious 1920s ballroom (now
with two matching futons, upholstered furniture and a great sound system),
opening into a diminutive dining area for four, a fabulous red and gold
bedroom retreat with Queen bed and western views, great kitchen, and bath
with huge, gold, clawfoot tub.
To mention that F sports two third-floor
balconies just seems like bragging. It's definitely worth the two flights of
stairs, but NOT for your grandmother. Let her stay below and go down to
visit. . .This is an allergy sensitive unit (non-pet) and non down--though
we went the extra mile with Columbia down subsitutes, so you won't miss the
feather beds and duvets of the other units in the slightest. It's all
there--Enjoy! $115-$155. |

Offsite Units
The
Wakefield House Unit 8--the Hobbit Hole. The rear unit of the
Mission style mansion, directly across the street from the Odell House, is
well, a Hobbit Hole. You will remember, perhaps, the description provided
of Bilbo Baggins' home Underhill: underground, yet not damp; protected,
yet sunny and light, with views of the surrounding landscape. There you
have it. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, a living room, bath and
full kitchen, bedroom with queen bed, cable, WiFi, DSL, land phone line. A
retreat, (which over the years having learned not fight with architecture)
is decorated in a very fifties style--to match the vinyl! Beyond the
tribal oriental rugs you'll find boudoir lamps, vintage Art Deco
furnishings, chrome and black bar stools that set off the (largely orange
and green) color scheme. Trust me, it's unusual, but it gets rave
reviews. Off street covered and locked parking--but only if you have a
hobbit car--the low ceiling of the adjacent garage will not fit a SUV--but
what Hobbit has one of those anyway? Gandolf will just have to park on
the street. . .

Altamonte Dojo Bungalow. A classic one bedroom Craftsman cottage
completely furnished with kitchen, bath, dining area and a large living
room which offers a second sleeping space. The Bungalow features a quiet
sitting area on the front porch, an open inviting floor plan and beautiful
original built in cabinetry and fireplace. The property also houses our
second, smaller Aikido dojo (please see
www.spokaneaikido.com) to the rear of the house, and has a resident
caretaker in a second residence on site to help if need be. The location
is convenient and central, about the same distance east of downtown as the
Odell House is west of downtown. A more modest turn of the century
residential area than Browne's Addition, but charming and completely
comfortable. Cable video, DVD and high speed internet. This unit is
normally booked for longer stays, but if you are interested in a shorter
one, please ask.
